Patent Attorney & IP Strategist | Technology Innovation to Defensible IP Portfolios
I am a Patent Attorney and IP strategist who helps technology leaders transform innovation into defensible, scalable IP portfolios that drive growth and enterprise value. With over three decades in intellectual property, I combine deep technical expertise with commercial acuity to deliver IP strategies that work in the real world.
I have built my practice around physics, electronics, and software-based technologies, with particular strength in telecommunications, semiconductors, medical devices, software (most recently machine learning and artificial intelligence), security and cryptography. My approach is informed by both in-house commercial experience with Nokia Mobile Phones and extensive litigation practice in the UK courts, including the Court of Appeal and Patents Court.
What sets me apart is my dual perspective as both strategist and litigator. I hold both a Higher Courts Advocacy Certificate and a Higher Courts Litigator Certificate and have represented clients in landmark cases including Irdeto v Telewest and Halliburton v Smith. This contentious experience directly informs how I build IP portfolios – I know what works when it matters most. I am also a Unified Patent Court (UPC) representative entitling me to appear before the EU Unified Patent Court.
I have consistently achieved Band One recognition from Chambers & Partners for the last thirteen consecutive years, reflecting the commercial value I deliver to clients. My work spans from early-stage portfolio development through to complex multi-jurisdictional enforcement, always with an eye on the commercial objectives.
I am looking to support businesses in a NED and advisory capacity, bringing strategic IP leadership to boards navigating complex technology landscapes and competitive positioning. Having said that, I am more than capable and willing to act in a fractional in-house role and take a hands-on approach to identifying and procuring intellectual property protection to implement and bring effect to strategic advice.
We aim to deliver on-call, fractional in-house IP solutions that are turnkey, strategic, and delivered to scale. We are focussing on scale-up to SME companies who are looking for senior or executive-level support that moves at the pace they need. We are also happy to offer services to larger organisations. We will act as in-house counsel, not just “gun for hire” and recognise the importance of understanding a client’s business to exceed expectations and deliver real impact to help them drive their business forward.
